HR Manager
Build how Gantt Guild hires, pays, supports and grows a fully remote team across the United States and India.
About the role
We're a small, fully remote team in the US and India, and we're growing. You'll be our first people leader: you'll build hiring, onboarding, pay and benefits, policies and performance, and keep them as fair as the hiring we ask of the employers we work with.
You'll work directly with the founder, and you'll do the work yourself before you build the system around it.
What you'll do
- Run hiring end to end: structured interviews, short work samples, quick decisions and a respectful experience for every candidate.
- Set up and run payroll, benefits and contracts across the US and India, using an employer of record or PEO where it makes sense.
- Build pay bands that keep us in the top quartile for each role and location, along with our bonus and benefits programs.
- Write our people handbook in the open: policies, leave, expenses, remote work and conduct.
- Run onboarding, feedback and performance reviews that are clear, written and fair.
- Keep us compliant with employment law in both countries, and be someone anyone on the team can come to in confidence.
Your first 90 days
- 30 daysAudit hiring and onboarding, and take over the open roles on this page.
- 60 daysPut payroll, benefits and contracts on a firm footing in both countries, with written pay bands.
- 90 daysPublish the people handbook and run our first feedback cycle.
What you'll need
- Five or more years in HR, including at least two as an HR generalist or manager.
- Hands-on experience with payroll, benefits and employment contracts in the US or India, ideally both.
- Experience hiring for remote or distributed teams.
- Sound judgment and discretion with confidential matters.
- Clear written English; most of our work happens in writing.
- Some daily overlap with colleagues in India and US Pacific time.
Nice to have
- Experience with an employer of record or PEO.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or PHR certification.
- Compensation benchmarking.
- Start-up experience.
Where you'll work, and pay
Fully remote, from anywhere in the United States or India. You need to be authorized to work in the country you'll work from; we can't sponsor visas.
Top-quartile pay for the role and location, plus a bonus and benefits. We'll share the specific range in our first reply, before any interview.
About Gantt Guild
Gantt Guild runs the Operator Program, a free, 26-week program in project and product management for people in the United States. Students run four projects through a full fiscal year, in the tools real companies use, and are reviewed live every week. Employers pay a flat placement fee when they hire a graduate, and we also earn from Graduate Support and team training. We're a small, fully remote team, made in SF and Delhi.
Gantt Guild is an equal opportunity employer. We hire on evidence of skill and welcome applicants of every background. If you need an adjustment at any stage of hiring, write to hr@ganttguild.com.
